Happy pumpkin spice latte season! Starbucks launched a new promotion Monday, offering up to 475 Bonus Stars for reloading $20 or more into your account on the official Starbucks app via Chase Pay.
The promotion is valid between October 29 and December 12, 2018 and the Bonus Stars earning rate is as follows:
1x: Your first $20+ reload via Chase Pay will earn you 125 Bonus Stars.
2x: Your second $20+ reload via Chase Pay will earn you an additional 150 Bonus Stars for 275 total.
3x: Your third $20+ reload via Chase Pay will earn you 200 additional Bonus Stars, for a total of 475.
The offer may be targeted. I didn’t initially see it in my Starbucks account when I fired up the app. However, I went ahead and took a leap of faith by reloading $25 (though it lists $20 as the minimum) onto my Starbucks account via the app before receiving this offer in my inbox. I also linked Chase Pay to my Starbucks account (Chase Pay uses the same logins as your regular Chase account), then updated the Starbucks app to make sure I had the latest version.
When I checked back a little while later the Bonus Stars had already posted to my account. I also had two copies of the offer awaiting me in my updated inbox. (Please note that the offer only requires a $20 reload; however, I personally opted for a $25 reload this time.)
If you have a Chase Freedom, don’t forget that Chase Pay is one of the 5% cash back categories for Q4 2018. By using that card and Chase Pay you can earn 5 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar on top of all those bonus Starbucks Stars. Be sure to take a moment to scroll through your cards and select the Chase Freedom card from Chase Pay before reloading your Starbucks account. And of course, you’ll want to make sure you’ve activated your Chase Freedom card’s bonus categories so that you’re eligible for the 5x earnings this quarter.
If you don’t have a Freedom then use the best card in your wallet for dining, such as the new American Express® Gold Card that awards 4 points per dollar at US restaurants. Not sure which card to use — here are a few suggestions.
