Zimbabwe, in collaboration with Chinese investment company Touch Road International Holdings Group (TRIHG) and Ethiopian Airlines, has launched a new tourism package that will see the southern African country receive 350 tourists monthly from China, starting in March.
The package, known as Tour Africa – New Horizon Project Zimbabwe Chapter, emanates from an MOU signed between the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry and TRIHG in China during the first state visit by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in May, 2018.
The Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Prisca Mupfumira, commented: “It is in the spirit of this noble initiative that we are launching the Grand Tour Africa – New Horizon Project, which will see us receiving 350 Chinese tourists every month as from March 2019. This project is collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines, which is providing the charter flight for 350 tourists to travel through Djibouti, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. Tourists will enjoy the majestic Victoria Falls and other scenic beauties provided by nature.”
Mupfumira says that part of the large Chinese delegation will include investors coming to investigate the country while enjoying its unique tourist attractions. The interaction also seeks to establish cultural ties with the Asian country and promote cultural exchange programs between the two countries.
ZTA’s Head of Corporate Affairs Godfrey Koti says TRIHG has brought 33 tourism operators and media to Zimbabwe on Monday, January 21, and will depart on January 23. “This mission to Africa, particularly to Zimbabwe, comes at the most opportune time for the nation to send solid signals to the international community that Zimbabwe is a safe tourism and investment destination. These educational tours by leading tourism operators from China will go a long way towards improving the image of Zimbabwe and increasing packages promoting our country,” he says.
