The New York Times Journeys program has canceled its upcoming tours to Saudi Arabia.
A spokeswoman for the newspaper said it has canceled a departure scheduled for next month as well as two more through 2019 “in light of the uncertainty surrounding the disappearance of the Washington Post’s Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Turkey.”
New York Times Journeys tours are guided trips with Times journalists.
The newspaper began offering the Saudi Arabia tour in 2017 and had completed two trips, the spokeswoman said.
Last week, Richard Branson and Steve Case announced via Twitter that they have suspended their involvement with Saudi Arabia’s planned Red Sea tourism development project because of the questions surrounding Khashoggi’s disappearance.
Turkey has alleged the dissident journalist was killed and dismembered after entering the Saudi embassy in Istanbul to get paperwork for his upcoming marriage.
