Imhoff Farm on the Cape Point tourism route is undergoing a rejuvenation.
Construction on the original Cape homestead is under way with phase one set for completion before the peak season.
Imhoff Farm provides farm and adventure experiences, activities, and shopping and restaurants include the Blue Water Café, the Free Range Farm Shop and Umami Sushi.
The property has planted 1.5ha of vineyards with another 0.5ha to be added in stages. The vineyards are the first to be planted in Kommetjie and are part of a plan to establish the Kommetjie wine route. The position of the vineyards makes it sutiable for cultivars such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and the farm hopes to bottle a Methode Cap Classique. North facing vineyards have Shiraz planted as a single varietal wine. The vineyard will start producing in 2022.
The second phase of the development will include commercial office space, new stables and a residential component. “Our vision is to create a hub where locals and visitors can eat, work and play. As in centuries before, the Werf and farm will again become a hive of economic activity benefiting the local economy, creating jobs and opportunities for entrepreneurs,” explains developer Gerhard van der Horst, MD of Red Cliff Property.
In the current phase, foundations for new stables, office and retail space are being laid. “In future phases we look forward to a retail and commercial shed, a conference and wedding pavilion and an on-trend shared workspace where locals can work and collaborate. A brand-new paved parking area was recently completed, creating better access and convenience for visitors, including access for tour buses and a tour operators,” says Van der Horst.
