MUMBAI welcomed its first private 24-hour floating hotel last weekend, a sign the city is diversifying its tourist offerings.
The hotel will offer amenities expected of a luxury hotel including food, alcohol and room service. It also houses a banquet hall, a coffee shop and a dining lounge.
Celestial Sky – the in-house restaurant – features window seats that look out to the sea as well as a variety of fine dining dishes.

The hotel’s novel setting also allows for a sky deck with a unique backdrop of the Bandra-Worli sea link and a 360-degree view of Mumbai and the Arabian Sea.
The operation – estimated to cost 20 crore (US$3 million) – will cater to affluent expats, tourists and diners.
This is not the first time India has built floating hotels – Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu are hosts to their own “floatels”.
