Saruni Rhino, a safari property in northern Kenya, will open in February. It is in the Sera Community Conservancy and will launch the first on-foot rhino tracking experience in East Africa.
Guests, accompanied by guides and Sera Community Conservancy rangers, will be able to track Black rhino on foot.
The rangers will be equipped with transmitters connected to a microchip inserted in the horns of 11 rhinos. The microchip enables rangers to track the rhino’s GPS whereabouts throughout the 54 000-hectare sanctuary allowing guests to walk within metres of rhinos.
According to Saruni, the Sera Community Conservancy is the first community in Africa to own and operate a sanctuary dedicated to the conservation of the endangered Black rhino. The Sera Rhino Sanctuary was established in May 2015.
