Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has ramped up its efforts to promote tourism to the country by appointing CornerSun Destination Marketing to support marketing efforts in North America. The move came just a week after Kenya Airways launched direct flights from New York to Nairobi.
CornerSun Destination Marketing will begin its promotional campaign with a multi-city roadshow taking place in Boston on December 3, Washington DC on December 5, and New York on December 6, bringing 14 suppliers from Kenya to meet with travel advisors and tour operators in the US, according to the Association for the Promotion of Tourism to Africa (APTA).
In 2019, the marketing agency will manage a comprehensive co-op marketing campaign, as well as social media campaigns and sales calls in key markets.
The US has become one of Kenya’s key source markets, with direct flights between New York and Nairobi, US arrivals are expected to increase significantly. In addition, APTA says Kenya Airways has plans to start servicing Washington DC and Atlanta.
Betty Ichan, KTB Regional Marketing Manager for the US and Canada, told APTA: “We are excited to engage CornerSun as our representative in-market, and look forward to working together to bring increased awareness and positivity to Kenya in 2019.”
Kenya is one of East Africa’s most visited destinations. With 114 507 US arrivals recorded in 2017, this key source market overtook UK arrivals to Kenya. KTB’s vision is to see Kenya become the preferred long-haul destination in Africa.
