JAPAN is experiencing its coldest spell in nearly half a century, with temperatures in central Tokyo dropping to a low of minus four degrees last week – weather cold enough to freeze your tongue to a lamp post.
The last time Japan experienced weather this cold, The Beatles were just breaking up and Apollo 13 made its third mission to the moon – in 1970.
The cold has also brought with it a dumping of snow across the capital, disruptions on trains, flights, and roads. But the citizens of Tokyo aren’t letting the snow get in the way of their fun, in fact, they’re using it for that exact purpose.
Cue bizarre, brilliant and spectacular snow sculptures, inspired by popular anime movies and cultural Asian Icons.

Just in case you weren’t already convinced these sculptures were all made in Japan, here’s one to put the doubt at bay. Home of Hello Kitty and prominent figure in society, watching over the neighborhood.
