The Tourism & Transport Forum Australia (TTF) has welcomed yesterday’s announcement of conditional approval for Crown Resorts’ planned six-star hotel resort at Barangaroo in Sydney’s CBD. TTF CEO Margy Osmond said the development would enhance the tourism appeal of Barangaroo, which has already proved to be a hit with visitors following the opening of the Barangaroo Point Reserve last year.
‘’The conditional approval for this new development will increase Sydney’s luxury tourism stock and enhance the city’s reputation as a desirable destination for high-yield international visitors,” Ms Osmond said.
“Tourism will be the great economic driver and job-generator in the wake of the mining construction boom, and it is new multi-use precincts such as Barangaroo which will keep visitors flocking to Australia.
The Barangaroo Delivery Authority is to be congratulated for reaching this major milestone in the project.”
Crown Resorts Limited announced yesterday that the NSW Planning Assessment Commission has approved, subject to a number of substantial modifications and conditions, the applications for the modification of the approved concept plan for Barangaroo and for the construction of the Crown Sydney Hotel Resort at Barangaroo South.
“While it has been a long and detailed process, we are pleased with the overall outcome and we’re deeply committed to building a six-star hotel resort that Sydneysiders and all Australians can be proud of,” Crown Resorts chairman Mr Robert Rankin said.
“For too long Sydney has suffered from a lack of luxury tourism accommodation and Crown Sydney will help turn that around.
We will now move quickly to begin excavation work. We are expecting to complete construction and open in early 2021.”
Commenting on the approval, Crown CEO Mr Rowen Craigie said, “We are pleased that the NSW Planning Assessment Commission has given the green light for this important piece of tourism infrastructure to go ahead. Everyone at Crown is looking forward to commencing construction of Sydney’s first six-star hotel resort.”
