HELLO KITTY, the ubiquitous fictional icon that’s played a big role in Japan’s popular “kawaii” culture, will have her face emblazoned across a trio of cruise ships for Chinese tourists over the next two years.
Tourists will be able to set sail aboard the Hello Kitty-themed Costa Atlantica, Costa Serena and Costa Fortuna, all which are based in China.
The interior of the ship too will be themed around the iconic character; guests can sleep in Hello Kitty-themed cabins complete with walls, doors, sheets and pillows carrying her image.
This two-year partnership is not the first travel project themed around Hello Kitty. Taiwan’s EVA Air offers a Hello Kitty flight experience with stamped baggage passes, seats, soaps, toilet paper, cups and even sick bags themed around her.
Meanwhile, the Lotte Hotel in Seoul features a Hello Kitty-themed room with white and pink interiors and amenities, and the character’s face printed on everything from sheets to lampshades.
