INTERNET Giant Google believes it has the prediction of postponed flights down to a science with the launch of a new feature that claims it can detect delays even before airlines announce them.
According to the Jakarta Post (via the AFP) flights that have a track record of delays, owing to a multitude of reasons including tight turnaround times or bad weather, will be flagged on Google Flights.
To track the status of the flights, passengers must simply key in their flight number or the airline and flight route and the delay information would appear in the search results.
In avoiding bad calls, Google says it will not flag delays in the app until there is 80 percent certainty on the predictions.
The feature is likely to come in handy for travellers on connecting flights, or those coming to fetch the flyers from the airports.

However, the company says the information provided in the new feature should not be taken for granted.
“We still recommend getting to the airport with enough time to spare, but hope this information can manage expectations and prevent surprises,” Google said.
Apart from being able to predict delays, Google flights will be providing basic fare details for economy class travel for several airlines including American, Delta and United, as well as other costs like airport taxes, baggage fees and seat selection, among others.
