GETTING the window seat on a plane has its perks. It means you have more space to rest your sleepy head, you won’t be irritated by toilet-goers and you can look out the window at the tiny ant-like people below.
Inflight movies are usually outdated and constantly disturbed by in-flight announcements or the horrible crackling sound of your headphones letting you know the earphone jack needs replacing.
But fear not, as this new app is going to make the usual plane journey boredom a thing of the past, even when the sun has taken its hat off and a storm rages on below.
Inflighto is a new entertainment flight-tracking app that works in real time to tell you what’s going on below.
The app has been created by pilots and shows passengers a highly detailed satellite map of the locations they are flying over.
By clicking on the colored-coded map pins dotted around the area you’re 40,000 ft above, you can find out what events are happening, learn about a region’s history, see landmarks, points of interest and discover what the weather is going to be like in your intended destination.
The app was designed by two pilots with other pilots and passengers in mind and is suitable for both iOS and Android users when connected to in-flight WiFi.
With the use of this app, nervous flyers will hopefully be able to calm their anxieties as the premium version of the app, which is only US$39 a year, can also tell you about the sort of clouds you’re traveling through.
This means turbulence won’t come as a frightful shock and the explanation of cloud formations can reassure any scared passenger that it is nothing but hot air.
The upgraded version will also give passengers access to live marine tracking, so you can discover the names and occupations of the vessels below.
Another feature of the app is the live chatroom which hosts other passengers and crew from your flight. So, you could make some new in-flight pals or put in a special request with the crew for some extra dinner.
Now for the most nerd alert part: You don’t even have to be in the sky to take full advantage of the app.
If you’re an aviation adorer then download the app, log on to Flightaware.com (a flight tracking site) and type in a flight number from any plane in the world to discover what’s below.
