The Federal Aviation Administration on Saturday decreed a ban on all commercial and private flights between the U.S. and Turkey, following the Turkish military’s failed coup attempt.
Flights from Turkey via a third country are banned as well as direct flights.
“The FAA is monitoring the situation in Turkey in coordination with our partners in the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security, and will update the restrictions as the situation evolves,” the FAA said in a statement.
According to the Associated Press, Turkish authorities said that about 265 people were killed in the attempted coup and more than 1,400 were wounded.
