Ethiopia has been named one of the seven major tourism destinations in the world for the post- COVID-19 period by Forbes.com.
It is the only African country to make the list.
The list stated that the seven countries have yet to become world-class destinations but they have “all the right ingredients” people will want from a destination in the post-COVID world: pristine natural beauty, historic ruins and fascinating cultural experiences.
Forbes indicated that, of the 54 nations in Africa, it could be argued that Ethiopia had the most fascinating history. It is the oldest independent country in sub-Saharan Africa and the first Christian country on the continent. Lalibela in northern Ethiopia is famous for its distinctive churches cut out of the rock and dating from the 12th and 13th centuries.
Ethiopia is investing more in tourism, especially the MICE sector. The construction of the ETB3bn (€76.3m) Addis Africa International Convention and Exhibition Centre is under way and is a collaboration by private investors in collaboration with the Addis Ababa City Government.
