On August 3, 2016, an Emirates Boeing 777 burst into flames as it was making its final approach into Dubai International Airport (DXB). Even though the investigation into the exact cause of the crash landing hasn’t yet been completed, the carrier was able to verify that all 282 passengers and 18 crew members on board had survived.
In an unbelievable twist of fate, passenger Mohammad Basheer Abdul Khadar’s lucky number was drawn in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire lottery six days later, winning him 3.67 million UAE dirham, which converts to roughly $1 million.
According to an article on CNN, Khadar described escaping the ill-fated plane as “a miracle … a precious gift from God.” While Khadar is currently employed at a car dealership in Dubai, he plans to return to his hometown in India later this year, to better his own community. If he’s not the luckiest man in the world, who is?
