Nature-lovers and greenthumbs, take note. If eating a meal surrounded by flowers, trees and herb gardens sounds ideal to you, check out Amsterdam’s Restaurant De Kas, housed in the building which used to be Amsterdam’s Municipal Nursery. This special space became a restaurant in 2001, when Michelin-star chef Gert Jan Hageman re-purposed the greenhouse — and saved it from being demolished.
Dating back to 1926, the Pet Boon-designed greenhouse features 26-foot-high ceilings. The restaurant features daily fixed-price menus based on the specific harvest of the nursery. The restaurant uses as much as possible from its own gardens, but uses local farms and producers in case it needs additional ingredients.
Try some sustainable wines with your meal — there are about 40 options to choose from. Some are even local Dutch wines, too (who even knew Dutch wine was a thing?!).
The restaurant opens for lunch and dinner, and you can reserve a table online. A three-dish lunch meal will set you back 32.50 euros (~$40) and special tasting menus (wine included) can go up to 130 euros (~$160).

Since Chase added Flying Blue as a transfer partner in spring of 2017, you have the option to transfer from American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest and Chase Ultimate Rewards to Flying Blue. Plus, KLM or Air France’s Flying Blue websites are ideal for searching for SkyTeam availability in general. Although the fuel surcharges can be high for business class, you won’t pay too much in economy — Flying Blue award redemptions can start as low as just 25,000 Flying Blue miles for a one-way economy ticket between the US and Europe.
