DUBAI is not short of a stunning luxury hotel.
Along with Palazzo Versace Dubai, Four Seasons Resort Dubai and Jumeirah Al Qasr, to name a few, Dubai needn’t feel left out when it comes to the divine extravagance, but this hasn’t stopped it from adding the deluxe decommissioned Queen Elizabeth Two (QE2) cruise ship to its portfolio.
The legendary ship is starting a new chapter in her already 50-year history as a luxury floating hotel and glistening entertainment destination in the Mina Rashid port.

“To finally open the QE2 is a dream come true for my team and I. It is one of Dubai’s most highly anticipated projects and we know that a lot of people are going to be very excited to see her for the first time,” Dubai’s Ports, Customs and Free Zones Corporation (PCFC) Hotels CEO Hamza Mustafa commented.
The transformation of this illustrious ship is the work of PCFC Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, who envisioned the second coming of the QE2 in all its glory.

“I am very proud to reintroduce her to the world as she embarks on the next stage of her celebrated journey. It has been an honor to work on this wonderful project and to help ensure that our lovely Lady lives up to her new slogan: still making history,” Hamza added.
While she has begun her new life under the shimmering Dubai sun, the QE2 still retains some of her original features which won her such beautiful acclaim back in the late 1960s.
The 13-deck hotel includes revamped period furniture, well-known paintings, and memorabilia.
The maritime porthole windows remind guests they are bobbing on the ocean waves, even if they’re not sailing away.

In addition to keeping the same gorgeous details the QE2 had when she first set sail, PCFC has made sure the demands of the modern day traveler are met by installing the latest technology.
Guests can choose from the beautifully and expertly designed “cabin” standard rooms which are a generous but cozy 17 square meters, to the Royal Suites fit for the Queen – aptly named as Queen Elizabeth used to stay in these.
However, the icing on the luxury-floating-hotel cake is two of the specially designed Royal Suites called Mary of Teck and Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, both of whom were Queen Elizabeth II’s grandmother and mother respectively.

These exclusive suites can only be booked via special invitation – which is probably about as rare as getting your letter from Hogwarts.
Delicious dining options onboard include The Chart Room, reserved for sophisticated lounge drinking, The Golden Lion – a traditional English pub, and The Pavilion for family dinners overlooking the marina.

In her sailing lifetime, the QE2 made 1,400 voyages and played seafaring home to almost 2.5 million passengers.
With such a proud history, it would be a huge waste to let this stunning ship get swallowed by the sea.
