LAST night saw the all glitz and glam of Skytrax World Airport Awards in Stockholm, Sweden.
In total, it is the ninth time that Changi has claimed the title since the awards began back in 2000.
However, Changi isn’t the only airport representing Asia all the way up there at the top.
Also making it on the list is South Korea’s Incheon, Tokyo’s Haneda in Japan and Hong Kong International, with each taking second, third and fourth places respectively.
Chubu Centrair International Airport nabbed seventh place while European airports made up the rest of the list, including London’s Heathrow and Munich airport.
Changi is most certainly a worthy winner as the airport is continuously making improvements to ensure a better customer experience.
Last November saw the opening of the new US$944 million Terminal 4. Although it came with a hefty price tag, it means an additional 16 million passengers can travel to and from Changi airport without having to endure laborious bottlenecks and overcrowding.
Forward-thinking also earned Changi the top spot as the airport plans to open yet another terminal by 2024.
Changi also has plenty of facilities to keep waiting passenger entertained such as 62 shops and 19 food and beverage stations, including a “live roti prata station”.
There is also a LED screen which plays short theatrical performances and insights to cultural heritage and ever-changing art installations to inspire travelers.
“We are extremely honored to be named Skytrax’s World Best Airport for the sixth consecutive year,” Lee Seow Hiang, Chief Executive Officer of Changi Airport group, said at the event.
“It is a significant achievement for Changi Airport and spurs us to continue to deliver the best passenger experience for all who travel through Changi Airport.”
This statement is perfectly illustrated by the new Qantas flight route to London via Singapore, replacing the Dubai stopover. The first flight is due to take off from Perth this weekend, March 25.

Other categories at the awards included the world’s best airport terminals, which saw London Heathrow’s Terminal 3, Munich’s Terminal 2 and Changi’s Terminal 3 taking the top three spots.
Japan’s Kansai, Tokyo’s Haneda, and South Korea’s Incheon airports were all applauded in the world’s best airport baggage delivery category, with Changi also making it onto the list at seventh place.
The Skytrax awards are voted for by air travelers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey.
This year saw 13.73 million survey responses handed back by over 100 different nationalities.
