Overseas arrivals to South Africa are up 20% and total arrivals are up 14% year-to-date compared with the same period in 2015. This is according to the October 2016 stats released during December 2016 by Statistics SA.
Overseas arrivals for October were up 21% compared with October 2015, with a total of 250 737 arrivals. Total arrivals for the month of October were up 14%.
South Africa’s key source markets all experienced growth. In October 2016 arrivals from Germany were up 23%, the UK was up 12%, and the US were up 18% year-to-date. Total arrivals year-to-date were 237 740 from Germany, 354 292 from the UK and 286 857 from the US. Spain also showed significant growth, up 31% year-to-date with a total of 29 788 arrivals.
Growth was also recorded for emerging growth markets. Arrivals from Brazil are up 15%, China up 54% and India up 27% year-to-date. Total arrivals year-to-date recorded were 27 819 from Brazil, 98 645 from China and 81 429 from India.
Argentina and the Seychelles experienced notable growth for the month of October. Arrivals from Argentina were up 113% compared with the previous year, with a total of 1 029 arrivals, while the Seychelles were up 46% with a total of 1 073 arrivals.
