Allegiant will introduce 44 seasonal routes this summer, including service in three new destinations: Chicago, Houston and Boston.
With the new flights, the discount carrier said it will offer more than 500 routes. True to the company’s business model, most of the new flights will serve routes that currently have no nonstop commercial service. All the flights will launch in May or June and will operate twice weekly.
Allegiant will debut at Chicago Midway with six routes. The carrier will offer four routes each from Boston and Houston Hobby.
Existing Allegiant destinations that will see significant build-ups include Nashville (nine new routes); Knoxville, Tenn., Destin, Fla., and Savannah, Ga. (five new routes); Austin, Memphis and Asheville, N.C. (four new routes); and Pittsburgh, Grand Rapids, Mich., Norfolk, Va., and Myrtle Beach, S.C. (three new routes).
Allegiant said the growth is being facilitated by new aircraft, including 5 new Airbus single-aisle planes it added last year.
“There is a lot of leisure demand for cities that are regional destinations, and this route expansion will address some of that need,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s vice president of planning and revenue. “Also, this growth is about Allegiant being true to our mission as a company. We’re increasing the number of low-cost, affordable travel options for people who may otherwise be priced out of air travel.”
