Here’s a unique situation for this time of year: the forecast doesn’t call for snow, ice, sleet or even freezing weather, but airlines are setting up travel waivers — allowing you to change your flight with no fees — for New York City airports for flights on Monday.
It turns out an “intensifying” Nor’easter storm is moving up the east coast and threatening to ground flights just with its strong winds.
If you decide to keep your original flight schedule, keep in mind that airlines won’t be responsible for paying for your meals or hotels in the case of weather-related delays and cancellations. However, you might be covered by your credit card. The top credits card that offer solid flight delay/cancellation insurance include the Citi Prestige ($500 per passenger for 3+ hour delay), Chase Sapphire Reserve ($500 per ticket for 6+ hour or overnight delay) and Chase Sapphire Preferred ($500 per ticket for 12+ hour or overnight delay).
