Most of Mexico City’s luxury hotels and business hotels sit in a clear corridor between the central historic district and Polanco next to the largest park. It has been difficult to find quality lodging further afield in other neighborhoods. So we’re happy to add a new property that’s in a different part of the capital: Stara San Angel Inn.

The inn is more of a cozy long-stay affair than a place you pop into for just one night. Some business travelers make this their base for a month or more. The 22 suites in this boutique hotel have a kitchenette with two burners, a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker, plus the necessary dishes and glasses. A partial wall separates the bedroom area from the living room area and rooms have one or two terraces or balconies. Robes, L’Occitane products, and hardwood floors add to the appeal.
There’s a full gym on site and a library stocked with books. From that room there’s a view of greenery and nature—something normally hard to find in Mexico City hotels. There’s also greenery climbing the walls of the central courtyard, including herbs used for meals in the restaurant.
There’s an attractive full restaurant on site and 24-hour room service. Both are welcome in this San Angel location, which is not really walking distance to anywhere. (Fortunately this is a city with very reasonable cab prices.)
Those who want to be in the center of the action will probably prefer a more standard location, but for those with business in the area or who want to be closer to neighborhoods San Angel and Coyacan, this boutique hotel is a great addition to the scene.
