VERY few people go to the airport for a vacation in a glitzy hotel because staying in airport hotels is more of a necessity.
This is why the low budget capsule hotels that are springing up around Asia are proving to very popular.
These compact hotel suites once had a reputation for letting tipsy Japanese businesspeople sleep off a hangover or a place of refuge for love affairs to bloom.
But since their introduction in Japan in the 1970s, they have spread across Asia, creating a solution for travelers who only need a few hours rest or for those who are budget conscious.
And now, travelers passing through Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta airport can opt to stay at the new Digital Airport Hotel, fitted with 120 capsule rooms.
The hotel is due to open this Friday and guests can expect a minimalist design with more of a spaceship feel than a Scandinavian cozy Hygge atmosphere.

Two types of room, Alpha and Beta, each come with flatscreen TVs, a portable desk, and USB charging points.
The rooms are of course too small for ensuites, but communal showers are available along with blankets, pillows, and lockers.
And what would a modern hotel be without complimentary WiFi? That’s thrown into the super low room rate cost too.
A night in the Alpha room will set you back around US$17 and the Beta room is US$25, meaning you can save your dosh to spend on your vacation or a cheeky splurge at duty-free.
The online booking platform for Digital Airport Hotel is not up and running just yet, but Angkasa Pura II, which manages the airport and hotel, said it would be available to use by next month.
For now, travelers will have to chance their luck when they arrive at the airport and try to get a booking at this futuristic hotel.
