JAPAN’S Peach Aviation Ltd will become the country’s first carrier to enable transactions using bitcoin, reports Bloomberg.
In a statement, the airline said it aimed to increase tie-ups with local governments and regional companies to help spread the prevalence of bitcoin as a currency.
Peach CEO Shinichi Inoue told reporters, “We want to encourage visitors from overseas and the revitalization of Japan’s regions.
“This is a real first step in partnerships for Japan and we are aiming for more company and service tie-ups.”
Other brands such as airBaltic, Expedia and CheapAir, as well as commercial spaceline Virgin Galactic have introduced bitcoin as a legitimate currency.
In an analysis by The Economist, bitcoin can prove to be more secure as travelers need not worry about factors such as price volatility.
